Many people use the word codependency without understanding its meaning. Codependency should be used to describe behaviors that have developed in a dysfunctional family in which priorities have become unbalanced, and energy is focused on ensuring that everything seems normal from the outside rather than focusing on the needs of individual family members. 2. Codependency may continue into a professional role and result in a manager who has low feelings of self-worth and a strong need for approval from others. 3. Flexibility is different from codependency. A flexible individual has strong and positive feelings of self-worth and is able to listen to opposing points of view and actively listen to others. Change and compromise are possible for this person.
