Pericarditis as the initial manifestation of inflammatory bowel disease.

Pericarditis is an uncommon extraintestinal manifestation of inflammatory bowel disease. Clinical presentations range from asymptomatic pericardial effusions to cardiac tamponade. Our patient with ulcerative colitis presented with acute pericarditis that provided an opportunity to review the literature on cardiac involvement in inflammatory bowel disease.
