Concept analysis is an important device for clarifying the meaning of concepts and the foundations of nursing theory, research, and practice. Exploration of traditional approaches to concept analysis reveals the limitations of these methods for contextual analysis that acknowledges the social construction of the concept and acknowledges gender, class, and racial bias. Concept analysis conducted from a feminist perspective overcomes these weaknesses and becomes a powerful tool for the development of nursing knowledge.
