Survival times for enteric bacteria and fecal streptococci were investigated using filter-sterilized water from a northern Illinois river and temperatures of 0 degrees, 5 degrees, 10 degrees, and 20 degrees C. Survival of Salmonella typhimurium was essentially the same as Escherichia coli over normal seasonal temperatures. Fecal streptococci generally exhibited classic survival patterns.
