The physical properties of blood certain coagulation parameters were determined in 41 patients with ischaemic stroke. The patients were examined in two clinical groups: with transient ischaemic attacs (TIA) or reversible ischaemic neurological deficit (RIND) and completed stroke (CS). Blood viscosity was raised in stroke patients due to impaired plasticity of the erythrocytes and high value of plasma viscosity. In CS group haemorheological abnormalities were more significant than in TIA/RIND. Increased red cell aggregation and their rigidity, associated with lower values of the haematocrit, but not in a degree sufficient for maintaining blood viscosity at a normal level were found.
