Abstract
Percutaneous tracheostomy (PCT) facilitates easy, bedside insertion of a tracheostomy tube. The percutaneous approach to tracheostomy is used in some parts of the world. This is the first report of a PCT method, in Ireland. The percutaneous technique appears to have advantages over conventional, surgical tracheostomy.
