Pressure measurement systems are increasingly important for the clinician in the 1990s; however, choosing the right device is still not an easy task. This article, an overview of current technologies, focuses on the basic principles of new systems and clarifies technical specifications but does not judge specific brands. Based on long-term experience with pressure measurement systems, requirements for everyday use are made and discussed with respect to currently available technologies. For all persons who are in the process of buying a system, this article serves as a reference to help them find the most ideal system for a specific application.
