[Quality criteria in preoperative autologous blood donation from the viewpoint of the transfusion physician].

To maintain the advantages of autologous blood transfusion, the overall risk has to be lower than that in homologous transfusion practice. Therefore, autologous blood should be collected and prepared according to the rules applied to homologous blood products. Guidelines for quality control in autologous hemotherapy are discussed from the point of view of a transfusion practitioner.
