The emphasis placed on moving people with learning disabilities from hospitals to the community has tended to mask the fact that many patients still remain in hospitals, and will continue to do so for some time. This study concentrated on the impact of moving residents in a small hospital from one ward to another, and the effects this had on their self-care abilities and social behaviour. The results suggest that a move can have deleterious effects on certain individuals.
