Infections with Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) are the next most common complication in AIDS patients, and disseminated MAC infection is considered as an indicator disease of AIDS. Bacteriological and clinical features of MAC infection complicated with AIDS were reviewed. The number of AIDS patients in Japan has been increasing in a similar rate as in USA and Africa, so the members of Japanese Society for Tuberculosis should be ready for medical care of AIDS patients complicated with mycobacterial infections.
