The relative risks of smoking-related diseases are increasing for women as the ratio of men smokers to women smokers closes. In addition, recognition of smoking as a women's health risk has increased because of its adverse effects in pregnancy; its interaction with oral contraceptives; and its association with cancer of the uterine cervix, earlier menopause, and osteoporosis.
