To find an answer whether the maternal serum concentration of immunoglobulins is influenced by intravenous treatment with polyvalent immunoglobulins and whether it can be used for therapy monitoring we evaluated data of 12 patients suffering from 2 to 5 previous recurrent abortions. The course of maternal serum immunoglobulins (IgG, IgM, IgA) was monitored before and after application of Venimmun. The average concentration of IgG, IgM and IgA before intravenous application in the 8th, 11th, 14th, 17th, 20th and 23rd week of gestation was always within the normal range. 11 of the 12 evaluated pregnant patients delivered healthy children on term. One of the 12 patients suffered an abortion in the 20th week of gestation. Our analysis supports the theory that in some cases of recurrent abortions the presumably absent blocking factors can be substituted by passive immunotherapy.
