Methods for monitoring personal exposure to tetrachloroethylene vapour in the dry cleaning industry have been investigated. A Draeger diffusive colorimetric gas detector tube and the Delta vapour detection system manufactured by Sabre Gas Detection were both shown to be suitable for preliminary on-site monitoring. A range of short-term pumped colorimetric tubes were also shown to perform well under a range of environmental conditions. Data on laboratory evaluations and field trials are presented.
