Although there is much to be learned by experience-based research, most women can participate safely and should be encouraged to participate in some exercise program because the benefits outweigh the risks. Each woman should customize her exercise program after a thorough obstetric evaluation. Using common sense guidelines, the obstetric patient will feel better about herself and her ability to control, in a positive fashion, her pregnancy outcome.
