Successful medical treatment of inflammatory bowel disease depends on the judicious use of the therapeutic agents available. This, in turn, depends on the severity of patients' symptoms and the extent and location of the disease. This article describes the drug therapy and approach to specific clinical presentations encountered in patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.
