Ten adult men who underwent two successive pancreatic function tests in tandem received hyoscine-N-butylbromide intravenously before the second test. The drug inhibited secretin-stimulated protein, trypsin and amylase secretion and increased the bicarbonate concentration in the pancreatic juice. It is important to take these findings into account when interpreting the results of pure pancreatic juice collections taken during retrograde endoscopic pancreatography if the drug has been used as a duodenal relaxant.
