The author postulates the causes of an increased incidence of occupational diseases of the voice organ in teachers. The most frequent causes are: improperly performed prophylactic examinations, inadequate supervision over the teachers' work environment and lack of knowledge of physiology of the voice organ and techniques of its use from the teachers' perspective. The author also stresses the economic aspects involved in the diagnosis of an occupational disease, and she recommends to develop and implement preventive programmes.
