To determine the prevalence of seropositivity to cytomegalovirus in women presenting for donor insemination and in their partners.
Retrospective examination of test results for patients presenting for donor insemination. Two hundred eighteen couples presenting for donor insemination were studied.
Overall, 37% of women were seropositive for cytomegalovirus. Their partners had a slightly, although not significantly, lower rate of seropositivity. No clear relationship between patient age and rate of seropositivity was found.
The rate of seropositivity to cytomegalovirus in couples presenting for donor insemination appears to be lower than that reported for the general population.
