In the past ten years, interest in the production and utilization of paraoptometric personnel has risen sharply. Production alone will not meet the demands of the foreseeable future. More effective utilization of the skills of the trained paraoptometric is vital. Current practitioners have been slow to accept new modes of vision care delivery. Conversely, most optometric educational institutions have been unwilling or unable to develop training programs for student optometrists beyond the traditional solo concept. Recommendations are presented for immediate and long range remediation.
