The "success test:" validating the competencies required for healthcare leadership.

A leadership competency model was tailored to the culture and strategic direction of BJC Health System by correlating indicators of effective leader behavior with measures of success in the organization. We present the competency model, describe how it was derived, and enumerate ways it will be used to support BJC's transition to an integrated healthcare delivery and financing system.
