We describe the use of absorbable mesh for closure of a large parenchymal defect created by partial nephrectomy.
A circular piece of polyglycolic acid mesh was measured to approximate the diameter of the parenchymal defect and the edges were sutured to the renal capsule in a running fashion.
This technique has been used in 3 patients without complications. This approach has been particularly helpful for repairing large and irregular renal parenchymal defects.
Use of polyglycolic acid mesh is effective for rapid, hemostatic closure of the kidney in association with partial nephrectomy.
