Effects of gender on the doctor-patient relationship.

The sociopolitical changes that have occurred during the past 30 years include profound changes in the gender roles of men and women. As clinicians we must strive to be attuned to the whole spectrum of issues in our patients and in ourselves. We must take note of the affective climate, using our own feelings as the barometer, as we strive to make meaning of our patients' experiences.
