Anna Freud's genius encompassed the study and understanding of children and adults, spanning the gap between theory and practice. She pioneered the method and theory of child psychoanalysis, and demonstrated that the applications of psychoanalytic theory could make a crucial difference to children at high risk of having their physical, emotional and intellectual well-being blighted by poverty, war, biological handicaps, and family breakdown.
