[Anaerobic bacteria isolated from appendices and appendicitis cases].

Anaerobic bacteria were isolated from 17 of 40 normal appendices and appendicitis cases in Ankara. In both cases gram positive, nonsporulating, and gram negative organisms were isolated. Gram positive cocci were only isolated from appendicitis cases. The bacteria isolated from appendicitis are usually like the anaerobic bacteria of the colon flora. All anaerobic bacteria in appendix flora can cause appendicitis in suitable conditions.
