[Health status of children and adolescents and risk factors in a geographic endemic area].

The health status of children and adolescents residing in geographic endemic area of the Republic of Tatarstan was studied. Medical examinations of 5078 children and adolescents were performed. They showed a significant increase in the incidence of thyroid hyperplasia caused by iodine deficiency. The successively significant risk factors are biological, naturally ecological, and social.
