The oral administration of 2 g guanosine resulted in both normal and gouty patients in a significant increase of serum uric acid levels, remaining for 24 hours above the initial values. There was no difference in the response of both groups investigated, indicating that a "purine-tolerance test" has no significance in the diagnosis of arthritis urica. The 24-hour-rhythm of serum aicd was studied in 20 normal persons, showing no statistical significant differences. The results of this investigation demonstrate that blood-sampling for uric acid determination can be performed at any time of the day, provided a provided a purine-poor diet is given 24 hours before.
