Site-specific chlorhexidine: a periodontal alternative.

Three case reports demonstrate the clinical use of an adjunctive chlorhexidine chip capable of sustaining local antimicrobial activity for 7-10 days. The chip is easy to place, requires no additional chair time for removal, is self-adherent, and can be provided to periodontal maintenance patients on a recurring basis. This is another adjunct that can be part of the clinician's armamentarium when presented with a clinically challenging localized periodontal defect.
