Abstract

OBJECTIVES

To compare the extent of lipid peroxidation and the status of antioxidants in tumor and venous blood of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) at different intraoral sites.

DESIGN AND METHODS

Twenty four patients with OSCC at different intraoral sites and an equal number of age- and sex-matched reference subjects were chosen for the study. The concentrations of lipid peroxides and reduced glutathione (GSH) and the activities of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione-S-transferase (GST) were estimated in tissues and blood.

RESULTS

Diminished lipid peroxidation in tumor tissue was accompanied by decreased activities of SOD and CAT with increase in GSH and GSH-dependent enzymes. In contrast, enhanced lipid peroxidation with decrease in antioxidants was observed in the venous blood of OSCC patients.

CONCLUSION

No significant differences in lipid peroxidation and antioxidant levels were observed between patients with OSCC at different intraoral sites. However, our results revealed differences between the tumor and blood with respect to their susceptibility to lipid peroxidation and antioxidant status.

目的

比较口腔鳞状细胞癌(OSCC)患者不同口腔部位肿瘤组织和静脉血中脂质过氧化程度及抗氧化剂状态。

设计与方法

选取24例不同口腔部位患OSCC的患者以及相同数量年龄和性别匹配的对照受试者进行研究。对组织和血液中脂质过氧化物、还原型谷胱甘肽(GSH)的浓度以及抗氧化酶超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)、过氧化氢酶(CAT)、谷胱甘肽过氧化物酶(GPx)和谷胱甘肽-S-转移酶(GST)的活性进行了评估。

结果

肿瘤组织中脂质过氧化减少,同时SOD和CAT活性降低,而GSH及GSH依赖性酶增加。相反,在OSCC患者的静脉血中观察到脂质过氧化增强且抗氧化剂减少。

结论

不同口腔部位患OSCC的患者之间,脂质过氧化和抗氧化剂水平未观察到显著差异。然而,我们的结果显示肿瘤组织和血液在脂质过氧化易感性及抗氧化状态方面存在差异。
