Workers employed in the manufacture of iron/manganese alloys were exposed primarily to manganese, but also to noise and other factors. Neutrophilic erythrocytes of those workers displayed significantly higher adherence compared to that determined in the control group. Duration of employment, occurrence of chronic bronchitis and the intensity of tobacco smoking did not affect the adhesive properties of neutrophilic granulocytes in peripheral blood.
