The ability of the visual system to detect the information presented to the eye in form of spatial or temporal contrast can be characterized by the contrast sensitivity function (CSF). CSF measurements can be used to visualize loss in visual capacity in patients with different diseases and to monitor recovery of vision. In the clinic CSF is most commonly used to evaluate disability glare in patients with cataract.
