Abstract
The development of the requirement of private persons (by households) is discussed by micro-economic models, legal regulations, and cross-section-data, and is represented in stylized figures. These hypothetical longitudinal profiles are compared to those of income. The analysis supplies evidence of increasing requirement and decreasing income during retirement.
