Human oocytes have been found to exhibit spindle abnormalities that might lead to chromosomal errors when matured in vitro. However, the immature oocytes recovered from patients with polycystic ovary syndrome might include a high proportion of oocytes from degenerating and atretic follicles that are not selected for maturation in vivo.
