[The Verbal Learning and Retention Test. A useful and differentiated tool in evaluating verbal memory performance].

An American version of a psychometric test for clinical assessment and differentiation of verbal memory and learning ability (AVLT = auditory verbal learning test by Rey) was translated into German and evaluated in a population of 100 healthy adult subjects. The theoretical basis for this test and its diagnostic usefulness will be reported and discussed.
