Abstract

Severe spinal cord injury (SCI) leads to devastating neurological deficits and disabilities, which necessitates spending a great deal of health budget for psychological and healthcare problems of these patients and their relatives. This justifies the cost of research into the new modalities for treatment of spinal cord injuries, even in developing countries. Apart from surgical management and nerve grafting, several other approaches have been adopted for management of this condition including pharmacologic and gene therapy, cell therapy, and use of different cell-free or cell-seeded bioscaffolds. In current paper, the recent developments for therapeutic delivery of stem and non-stem cells to the site of injury, and application of cell-free and cell-seeded natural and synthetic scaffolds have been reviewed.

严重脊髓损伤(SCI)会导致严重的神经功能缺损和残疾,这使得需要花费大量的医疗预算来解决这些患者及其亲属的心理和医疗问题。这证明了即使在发展中国家,对脊髓损伤新治疗方法进行研究的成本也是合理的。除了手术治疗和神经移植外,还采用了其他几种方法来治疗这种疾病,包括药物治疗和基因治疗、细胞治疗以及使用不同的无细胞或细胞接种生物支架。在本文中,综述了将干细胞和非干细胞治疗性递送至损伤部位的最新进展,以及无细胞和细胞接种的天然和合成支架的应用。
