To study the epidemiological characteristics of diabetes mellitus in Chinese children and adolescents at the age of 5 to 17 years according to the data of China Nutrition and Health Survey in 2002.
The contents of fasting plasma glucose (FPG) of 39928 subjects, at the age of 5 to 17 years, were determined by glucose oxidase method and the prevalence of diabetes mellitus were analyzed by gender and age groups. According to WHO and IDF criteria (1999) to diagnose DM.
The levels of average FPG of all subjects were (4.60 +/- 0.57) mmol/L. The levels of FPG in city population were slightly higher than those in rural population. The prevalence of DM in Chinese children and adolescents were 0.19%. The prevalence of DM in urban and rural areas was 0.25% and 0.17% respectively. The prevalence of DM at the age groups of 5 - 9 year, 10 - 14 year, and 15 - 17 year were 0.10%, 0.14% and 0.39% respectively.
The prevalence of DM in Chinese children and adolescents could trends to the developed countries. The prevalence of DM at the age of 5 - 17 years should be considered.

采用葡萄糖氧化酶法测定39928名5至17岁受试者的空腹血糖(FPG)水平,并按性别和年龄组分析糖尿病患病率。根据世界卫生组织和国际糖尿病联盟(1999年)标准诊断糖尿病。
所有受试者的平均FPG水平为(4.60±0.57)mmol/L。城市人群的FPG水平略高于农村人群。中国儿童及青少年糖尿病患病率为0.19%。城市和农村地区的糖尿病患病率分别为0.25%和0.17%。5至9岁、10至14岁和15至17岁年龄组的糖尿病患病率分别为0.10%、0.14%和0.39%。
中国儿童及青少年糖尿病患病率可能趋于发达国家水平。应关注5至17岁人群的糖尿病患病率。
