Patient's right to formulate advanced directives is a result of the joint evolution of laws and the medical ethos. How is this bringing together at the same time the recognization of patient autonomy and objectifs of the art of medicine? Due to the impossibility of answering the question in a general way, the issue will be studied by referring to the positions of the Belgium order of doctors.
