Abstract

Patients with end stage renal failure (ESRD) require renal replacement therapy in the form of dialysis or renal transplantation. There is an increasing number of people receiving maintenance dialysis as patients with ESRD are increasing faster than the supply of transplantable organs. The mortality rate on dialysis is 4-6 times that of the general population and is substantially reduced by transplantation. For the past 8 years, dialysis research has focused on improving patient outcomes and quality of life on dialysis. This review examines recent advances in haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis in a historical context and considers future research possibilities.

终末期肾衰竭(ESRD)患者需要通过透析或肾移植的形式进行肾脏替代治疗。由于ESRD患者数量的增长速度超过了可移植器官的供应速度,接受维持性透析的人数正在不断增加。透析患者的死亡率是普通人群的4至6倍,而肾移植可大幅降低死亡率。在过去8年中,透析研究一直专注于改善透析患者的治疗效果和生活质量。本综述在历史背景下审视了血液透析和腹膜透析的最新进展,并探讨了未来的研究可能性。
