Abstract

BACKGROUND

The evolution of the author's technique for minimal incision rhytidectomy is reviewed.

OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this article is to outline the indications, advantages, and disadvantages of this technique.

METHODS

A total of 749 cases covering more than 10 years of clinical experience are reviewed. A classification of patient types is proposed that includes indications and surgical programs appropriate for each patient category.

RESULTS

In properly selected patients, the technique is safe, reliable, and reproducible. Complication rates are similar to those of other standard techniques.

CONCLUSIONS

Minimal incision rhytidectomy with lateral SMASectomy is a useful technique that the plastic surgeon can add to his or her armamentarium.
