[Humidification of inspired air in respiratory therapy of newborn infants].

Humidification of inspired gas plays an important role in artificial ventilation of newborn infants. There are many technical problems, some due to poor performance of heating and humidification devices. "Membrane" humidifiers, using an entirely new technology, may offer an appropriate method for conditioning inspired gas. Controlled studies are needed to make a precise estimate of the optimal levels of inspired gas temperature and humidity.
