The multiplicity of transketolase forms, differing in thermostability and separated by phosphocellulose chromatography, has been shown. Using SDS-PAGE, it was found that the mobility of yeast enzyme forms in all cases was identical. Certain forms of transketolase from yeast, rat or pig liver and from some organs of the rabbit were similar with regard to their chromatographic behaviour and thermostability. The form ratio seems to be determined by the physiological state of the organism.
