For district nurses obtaining consent is, in most cases, a routine part of delivering care and treatment to patients. In some cases, however, patients will have strong views on the type of treatment they want for their condition and demand it be provided, or equally strong views that they want no treatment and refuse consent. In this article Richard Griffith and Cassam Tengnah consider the legal and professional obligations of district nurses faced with patients who demand or refuse treatment.
