Abstract

PURPOSE

To investigate the association between risk of ovarian cancer and body size among southern Chinese women.

METHODS

A hospital-based case-control study was undertaken in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, from 2006 to 2008. Participants were 500 incident ovarian cancer patients and 500 controls, with a mean age of 59 years. Information on adult height and weight was obtained via face-to-face interview using a structured questionnaire. Logistic regression analyses were performed to assess the association between anthropometric factors and the ovarian cancer risk.

RESULTS

Compared with women having body weight ≤50 kg and body mass index (BMI) <18.5 kg/m(2), the adjusted odds ratios (ORs) of ovarian cancer were 1.84 (95 % confidence interval (CI) 1.34-2.54) and 1.77 (95 % CI 1.04-3.02) in those women who had body weight >55 kg and BMI ≥23 kg/m(2), respectively. Significant dose-response relationships were also observed for both weight and BMI (p < 0.01). Body height was not significantly associated with ovarian cancer risk.

CONCLUSION

Body weight and BMI were associated with increased risk of ovarian cancer in southern Chinese women.

探讨中国南方女性的体脂与卵巢癌风险的相关性。

方法

本研究于 2006 年至 2008 年在广东省广州市开展了一项基于医院的病例对照研究。研究对象为 500 名卵巢癌新发病例和 500 名对照，平均年龄为 59 岁。通过使用结构化问卷进行面对面访谈获取参与者的成年身高和体重信息。采用 logistic 回归分析评估了体型因素与卵巢癌风险之间的相关性。

结果

与体重≤50kg 且 BMI＜18.5kg/m2的女性相比，体重＞55kg 且 BMI≥23kg/m2 的女性发生卵巢癌的调整后比值比（OR）分别为 1.84（95%置信区间（CI）为 1.34-2.54）和 1.77（95%CI 为 1.04-3.02）。体重和 BMI 均呈现出显著的剂量-反应关系（p＜0.01）。身高与卵巢癌风险无显著相关性。
