Abstract

OBJECTIVE

To investigate the antibacterial activity and phytochemical screening of the aqueous, methanol and petroleum ether leaf extracts of Merremia emarginata (M. emarginata).

METHODS

The antibacterial activity of leaf extracts of M. emarginata were evaluated by agar well diffusion method against four selected bacterial species.

RESULTS

The presence of tannins, flavonoids, amino acids, starch, glycosides and carbohydrates in the different leaf extracts was established. The methanol extract was more effective against Bacillus cereus and Escherichia coli, whereas aqueous extract was more effective against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

CONCLUSIONS

: The results in the present study suggest that M. emarginata leaf can be used in treating diseases caused by the tested organisms.

目的

研究缺裂鱼黄草(Merremia emarginata,M. emarginata)叶片水提取物、甲醇提取物和石油醚提取物的抗菌活性并进行植物化学筛选。

方法

采用琼脂扩散法评价缺裂鱼黄草叶片提取物对四种选定细菌的抗菌活性。

结果

确定了不同叶片提取物中存在单宁、黄酮类化合物、氨基酸、淀粉、糖苷和碳水化合物。甲醇提取物对蜡样芽孢杆菌和大肠杆菌更有效,而水提取物对金黄色葡萄球菌和铜绿假单胞菌更有效。

结论

本研究结果表明,缺裂鱼黄草叶可用于治疗由受试微生物引起的疾病。
