A disease of weaned lambs is described, which is attributable to chronic hepatitis marked by impaired secretion of cholephils in the acute or early stage and by inadequate growth due to persistent dysfunction of the liver during the subsequent or chronic stage. Regardless of its duration, the disease may be diagnosed in the living animal by determining the SDH and gammaGT activity levels, the total serum protein, the serum iron concentration and the serum iron-binding capacity.
