Gel chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography have been applied to analysis of the blood serum peptides in renal patients. The levels of the peptides with a molecular mass of 300-5000 D have been found to correlate with the severity of the kidney involvement. A rapid method for measuring the concentrations of these peptides has been developed, based on the precipitation of the blood serum high-molecular peptides followed by measurement of the concentration of the peptides remaining in the supernatant with the use of a specific reagent. The suggested method has been used to define the severity of the kidney involvement and to monitor the efficacy of hemodialysis and hemoperfusion.
