Abstract

CONTEXT

The Renin Angiotensin system has been implicated in the pathogenesis of Drug Induced Gingival Overgrowth (DIGO), a fibrotic condition, caused by Phenytoin, Nifedipine and Cyclosporine.

AIM

This study quantified Angiotensin II levels in gingival tissue samples obtained from healthy individuals, patients on Nifedipine manifesting/not manifesting drug induced gingival overgrowth.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Gingival tissue samples were obtained from healthy individuals (n=24), patients on nifidipine manifesting gingival overgrowth (n= 18) and patients on nifidipine not manifesting gingival overgrowth (n=8). Angiotensin II levels were estimated in the samples using a commercially available ELISA kit.

RESULTS

Angiotensin II levels were significantly elevated in patients on Nifedipine manifesting gingival overgrowth compared to the other 2 groups (p<0.01).

CONCLUSION

The results of the study give an insight into the role played by Angiotensin II in the pathogenesis of drug induced gingival overgrowth.

目的

本研究对从健康个体、服用硝苯地平且出现/未出现药物性牙龈增生的患者获取的牙龈组织样本中的血管紧张素II水平进行了量化。

材料与方法

从健康个体(n = 24)、服用硝苯地平且出现牙龈增生的患者(n = 18)以及服用硝苯地平但未出现牙龈增生的患者(n = 8)获取牙龈组织样本。使用市售ELISA试剂盒对样本中的血管紧张素II水平进行评估。

结果

与其他两组相比,服用硝苯地平且出现牙龈增生的患者的血管紧张素II水平显著升高(p<0.01)。

结论

该研究结果深入揭示了血管紧张素II在药物性牙龈增生发病机制中所起的作用。
