Abstract

PURPOSE

To describe where child refugees are located, the risks they face, leading health problems, and how pediatric healthcare professionals can help.

CONCLUSIONS

Children constitute approximately 46% of refugees worldwide. These refugees fled their home countries due to conflict and persecution, and cannot return because of race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.

PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS

Pediatric nurses have an unprecedented opportunity to advocate for child refugees by contributing to the international conversation on the human rights of immigrants.
