Data concerning possible psychological etiology to cancer are reviewed, and thus far justify continued efforts toward testing the questioned hypothesis. Present findings do not yet provide a unified theory, however, and further research is necessary for psychiatrists and psychologists to play an active role--with oncologists--in the prevention, prediction, detection and care of cancer.
