A study of hospital discharge communications showed that discharged patients still consult their general practitioners before they have received discharge communications and that the information received continues to be less than ideal. Despite rapid expansion of the use of communication technology in the business community this has not yet spread to medicine where communication between secondary and primary care is only slowly improving.
