[Primary malignant melanoma of the vagina--report of 8 cases].

Eight patients with primary malignant melanoma of the vagina are reported. They were all localized in the vagina with typical histologic features. Fontana and S-100 protein stain were positive. The prognosis was poor. Seven of them died and one was lost in the follow-up. Most of them (5/7) died in 1-2 years after treatment, but two survived for more than 5 years. In this paper, one case of vaginal cellular blue nevus was also suggested and the differential diagnosis from malignant melanoma was emphasized. The histogenesis of this tumor is briefly discussed.
